For this project, I worked closely with KQED’s Podcast team to design a brand identity for Hyphenación, a fun yet deep conversational video podcast featuring Latinos of different backgrounds candidly discussing cultural touchpoints and personal life choices. Hosted by Xorje Olivares, the podcast is a platform where conversation and cultura meet.

I worked worked in tandem with the KQED Podcast team to moodboard, art direct, design, and implement all aspects of Hyphenación’s branding.

The goal was to both align the brand with the KQED’s Arts brand while simultaneously allowing it to have its own distinct look and feel. I also created a distinct color palette and flexible graphic pattern utilizing be easily adapted and applied across multiple digital platforms.

Afterwards, I applied the branding across a wide variety of digital assets, communicating directly with the Podcast, Product and Digital Video teams.

Hyphenación had a successful launch and garnered much attention. The video podcast series was recognized many times in its debut season, including winning 1st place for Podcast General Interest at the San Francisco Press Club’s 2025 Gala and for the Commentary/Analysis (radio/audio/podcast) category at the SPJ NorCal 2025 Excellence in Journalism Awards, as well as being recognized as a finalist for the Signal Awards.
